Dan Hall
Dan began a long career in fishing & guiding at the age of 16, even prior to the official opening of Dan’s Fly Shop in 1960. In 1958, Dan’s neighbor, Jim Brunner, took Dan to a tributary of the Arkansas River, handed him a fly rod, and with some basic instruction, patient demonstration, and a few helpful hints, started Dan on what would prove to be a life long journey involving many streams, many fly rods, and many beginning fishermen. Dan began tying his own flies in between his duties of helping to build the cabins at Pleasant View Resort and later driving jeep tours. He soon was selling flies, repairing rods, and taking resort customers on fishing expeditions. Thus Dan’s Fly Shop was born. In 1968 he began making his own rods- a skill which has become a fine-tuned craft and produces a variety of masterpiece rods each year. For over 49 years, he has waded the Lake City streams, taking with him both novice and professional, building a repertoire of lifetime friends and unforgettable memories. To Dan, a stranger is just a friend he hasn’t met yet.
Dan is often heard to say, “A bad day on the stream is better than a good day in the office.”
